So you don't care about the cows...

But do you care about the earth? Do you care about being lied to? Do you care about the fact that chances are, your children will grow up in a world with NO rainforest? Check it.

Animal Agriculture is responsible for 91% of Amazon destruction.
1-2 acres of rainforest are cleared EVERY SECOND.
The leading causes of rainforest destruction are livestock and feedcrops.
110 plant, animal, and insect species are lost every day due to rainforest destruction.
26 million rainforest acres have been cleared for palm oil production.
136 million rainforest acres have been cleared for animal agriculture.

Don't take my word for it, get all the facts here: http://www.cowspiracy.com/facts/ and check out the movie. It could change your life. And even save our earth. And Kip Andersen is easy on the eyes...

It's Time to Open Your Ears

The beef industry has contributed to more American deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of "real food for real people," you'd better live real close to a real good hospital.

The Bullet that changed my life.

Dude, get your head out of the gutter. The Magic Bullet changed my life - like really changed my life. It got rid of mixing, whisking, beating, and anything that takes up energy. It also lets me make quick blend and go smoothies, so it helps me be healthy. But then again, it also lets me make quick blend and go margaritas. And chocolate/PB shakes. And tofu frosting.

1-2-3 Dressing Done.

Stop buying salad dressing. It's seriously the biggest waste of money. And plastic. And it's filled with a bunch of crap that could make it live on the shelf long after you're gone. If you have these three basic ingredients at home, you have yourself dressing. And I sometimes throw in a bit of ginger, garlic, or really anything I randomly find in my fridge. Take that Hidden Valley!
Andrea's Lazy Dressing
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Lemon
Green Onion
(Optionals - Ginger, Garlic, Salt, Pepper, Chilis, Berries, etc.)

1. Put all ingredients in a jar and shake a lot. Or in a bowl and whisk really well. Or if you're lazy like me and don't feel like an arm workout - throw it in a blender or Bullet.

"I don't have my body. I am my body."

Every morning, I walk three miles to spend an hour in yoga dripping sweat and feeling my muscles grow. I would love to say I do it for my health, but the truth is, I do it because I want to stay thin. On my walks, I catch up on my podcasts and the one today really hit me. If you struggle with your body image, as every single woman who's not lying does, this is worth a listen. Thank you Jennifer Kohnhorst. Andrea's Adel Salad

3/19/2015

Adel Salad
1 Medium Tomato, Chopped
1 Head of Romaine, Chopped
7-8 Black Olives, Sliced
1/4 Cucumber, Chopped
1 Handful Mozarella Daiya Cheese
1-2 Tbsp. Go Veg Parmesan Cheese
1/2 - 1 Cup Brown Rice Penne
6 Strips Beyond Meat Chicken
This has been my go to salad for over ten years. It was named "Adel" salad by all of my friends who would ask me how to make it or ask me to make it for them. It's super easy and fast...because I don't do it any other way.
1. Boil water and put penne in.
2. While penne is cooking, chop all the rest of the ingredients (except cheese and chicken)
3. Put chicken on a pan and warm until each side is a bit brown. This is like two minutes on each side.
4. Strain penne and run with cold water to cool it down.
5. Put everything into a bowl, add in the Daiya, and top with the veg parmesan.
6. Mix with your favorite dressing. Or my lazy dressing.

Being vegan is just too hard....and it's expensive...whine...

Being vegan doesn't take a lot of time or money! Take it from me. I put together a meal in about five minutes and save my money for clothes. The list below will tell you how to be vegan while existing on only fast food...not that this future vegan Martha Stewart would ever eat fast food.

Subway: Any veggie sub on any bread except 9 Grain Wheat or Honey Oat (both contain honey.) Lose the cheese and mayo. Add avocado, mustards, oil and vinegar. Or get it as a wrap. Or get it as a salad. Don't eat the veggie patties. They have egg in them.
Quizno's: Veggie sub. Lose the cheese and mayo and load up on guacamole and oil/vinegar.
Taco Bell: Any Fresco style tacos or burritos. Lose the meat, cheese and sour cream. Substitute with beans and guacamole. The 7 Layer Burrito without the cheese or sour cream layers also is vegan.
McDonald's: Disregard completely. Don't look at the sign. I can't even write about it. Just don't ever eat there.
Burger King: You can have the fries because they are cooked in a separate fryer with no animal products. The onion rings you can't have, they are in an animal shared fryer. And don't eat the veggie burgers. They have egg in them.
Jack in the Box: Teriyaki Rice Bowls without meat. Tacos with black beans instead of meat and cheese. Fries and hash browns are in an animal free fryer so they are ok (except that they are greasy and really fattening.)
Carl's Jr.: You can have the fries or hash browns (if you don't mind the grease) or a taco salad without meat, cheese or sour cream.
Wendy's: Side and regular salads, though you'll have to pick off the meat and cheese and not use their cream dressings. Baked potatoes with just salt, pepper and chives.
Arby's: Seriously, where is there an Arby's?
Pizza Hut: The only vegan dough is the multigrain dough with NO sauce. Their sauce isn't vegan. So basically, the multigrain pizza, no sauce, no cheese, with veggies.
Domino's: The only vegan dough is the crunchy think crust but you can't have the sauce. The breadsticks are not vegan.
Papa John's: Won't publish their ingredients online. Too shady to eat at.
Baja Fresh: Tostada without meat, cheese or sour cream but with loads of salsa and guacamole. Veggie tacos or burritos without sour cream or cheese.
Chipotle: Anything you want sans cheese, sour cream and meat.
Del Taco: Veggie Works burrito sans sour cream and cheese.
Starbucks: Any soy drinks. And you can have flavors since they use syrups instead of powders!
Coffee Bean: Any soy drink but no flavors...they use powders with a milk base.

Andrea's Lazy "Egg" Salad.

3/18/2015

Growing up, I loved when my grandma would make me egg salad. After discovering what chickens endured to provide eggs, I couldn't eat it again. But I missed it horribly. So here is my version. I'll admit, this picture doesn't look appetizing, but I promise it actually is really yummy!
Andrea's Lazy "Egg" Salad
1 Package Firm Tofu (14 oz)
2-3 Stems Green Onions Chopped
2 Stalks Celery Chopped
5-6 Cornichons Chopped
1/4 Cup Vegenaise
1 Tbsp. Nutritional Yeast
Garlic Salt
Black Pepper
Picture
1. Press the tofu by wrapping it in a kitchen towel and putting something heavy on top of it until all the water comes out.
2. Cut the tofu into slices and in a bowl, combine the tofu and vegenaise. I use a whisk to kind of press it so it gets the consistency of egg.
3. Add in the nutritional yeast to thicken it up a little.
3. Add in the onions, celery, and cornichons.
4. Add a touch of garlic salt and pepper as needed.

Every once in a while ice cream for dinner is a healthy choice. And by every once in a while I mean at least once a week. My fave? Trader Joe's Cherry Chocolate Chip. I challenge you to make it last more than two servings...

Vegan because of a love for animals. Afraid of the kitchen because I grew up on Top Ramen. Basically, I've lived most of my life hangry. My goal is to show you how easy it is to live satisfied and cruelty free, one meal at a time.
